10 Ways to Encourage Your Child To Learn
10 Ways To Encourage Learning

Who said learning has to be boring? Learning can be so much fun if you take the time to make it enjoyable. There are many interesting but practical ways to encourage learning. If you want your child to excel in class, you have to think beyond the walls of the classroom. Here are 10 proven ways to encourage your child or your students to learn more effectively.
1. Make more time for reading
Reading opens up a whole new world of learning. If you want your child or student to prosper academically, encourage them to read more. Children are more likely to read something they are interested in. Read to them frequently and make it a daily habit.
2. Give your child the option to choose
When encouraging your child or students to learn, it’s important to let them make their own choices. Children will refuse to learn if they feel as if they are being constantly controlled. Allow them to cultivate their own learning experience but ensure that you are there to guide them through it.
“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.”
B.B King
3. Communicate sincerely
Remember that communication is important when it comes to learning. As a parent or teacher, you need to show your child that they can communicate openly with you. When you allow a child to express their feelings and concerns, they feel that their opinion matters. Reassure them that you care about their learning experience.
4. Focus on their interests
Children tend to focus more and make more of an effort to learn when it’s a topic that intrigues them. For example, if your child is interested in planets, ask questions that will make learning fun. This could be something like what their favourite planet is, or which planet has a ring around it.
5. Find different learning styles
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to learning. Some children are visual learners whereas others learn better when they listen to something. You need to discover a learning style that is best suited to your child or student.
6. Be enthusiastic
Children tend to mimic those around them as they grow and learn. Show enthusiasm for their work and watch their smiles and excitement blossom. It will inspire them to learn more as they will find learning exciting.
7. Celebrate and acknowledge achievements
Whether it be a big or small achievement, you should praise your child for their hard work. Children require constant support to help keep them motivated at school. Try your best to always be positive and reward your child for their academic performance.
8. Ask what they have learned
Whilst performance at school is important, asking your child what they have learned is more beneficial. By simply asking your child what they have learned in school shows that you have a genuine interest in their learning experience. If you only ask about their test or exam results, you’re showing that you’re focused solely on how well they’re doing in school.
9. Make learning a daily habit
Encourage your child or student to learn more about the world around them by getting them involved in fun activities. Ask them questions on what they see and think to promote their learning experience.
10. Help your student or child get organised
Teach your children that organisation is an essential step in staying motivated. It prevents feelings of being overwhelmed and can boost their confidence. Show them how to keep their schoolwork organised by tidying up and packing away.
