Academics

As an independent school, we implement the ISASA Curriculum along with the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Standard (CAPS) and enrich both, with relevant and appropriate content under the guidance of our holding company, ADvTECH’s Central Academic Support Team. Additional focus is also placed on:

  • Global Citizenship
  • Digital Literacy and EdTech Integration
  • Respect, Diversity and Inclusion (RDI)

At Trinityhouse Pre-Primary, we follow a “Learn through Play” and a “Reggio Emilia” inspired approach.  Our aim is:

  • To promote the emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of the child.
  • To develop a positive attitude towards school and learning.
  • To help the children feel good about themselves and what they are doing.
  • To provide guidance in developing self-discipline.
  • To develop the ability to communicate.
  • To provide opportunities for the child to learn to reason, solve problems, make decisions, form conclusions and express opinions without fear of rejection or ridicule.
  • To build a foundation for academic areas – basic skills and concepts in language, arts, science, life skills and mathematics.
  • To provide an atmosphere that allows for creativity.
  • To develop an awareness of the environment.
  • What is a Reggio Emilia inspired approach?

Reggio Emilia inspired learning is an educational philosophy focused on preschool and primary education. It was developed after World War II in the town of Reggio Emilia in Italy. Here are the key principles and aspects of this approach:

Child-Centred Learning: Children are seen as strong, capable, and resilient individuals with an innate curiosity. The curriculum is designed around their interests and needs.

Role of the Environment: Often referred to as the "third teacher," the environment is carefully designed to be welcoming, stimulating, and reflective of the children's work and interests. It is an essential component of the learning process.

Project-Based Learning: Learning occurs through projects that can last from a few days to several weeks. These projects are in-depth studies of concepts, ideas, and interests that arise within the group.

Documentation: Teachers document the children's thoughts, discussions, and progress through photographs, videos, and written observations. This documentation is used to reflect on the learning process and to share it with parents and the community.

Collaboration and Interaction: Collaboration among children, teachers, and parents is encouraged. Learning is viewed as a social process, where interaction with others enhances understanding and development.

Teacher as Researcher: Teachers are seen as researchers and co-learners. They observe, document, and reflect on the learning process to guide the children's exploration and learning.

Aesthetic and Expressive Learning: The Reggio Emilia approach emphasizes the importance of aesthetics and the arts in education. Children are encouraged to express themselves through various mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and dramatic play.

Emergent Curriculum: The curriculum is flexible and evolves based on the children’s interests and responses. It is not pre-determined but develops dynamically with input from the children.

Community Involvement: The approach values the connection between the school, family, and community. Parents are actively involved in the learning process and in the school community.

Overall, Reggio Emilia inspired learning fosters an environment where children are encouraged to explore, create, and learn in a way that respects their individuality and promotes their natural curiosity.
