Creative Courage, Big Dreams and Space Kid Adventures
Meet Trinityhouse alumna Rumbo Mughogho, turning creativity into a global career one story at a time
Creativity, courage and curiosity continue to shape the inspiring journey of Trinityhouse alumna Marumbo Mughogho, better known as Rumbo Mughogho. Since matriculating from Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge in 2019, Rumbo has transformed a passion for art and storytelling into an exciting career spanning fine art, social media marketing and digital content creation.
1. Creative storytelling sits at the heart of your work. Where did your love for creativity begin?
I always joke that I was the child who never put down their crayons! Science subjects interested me at school, but creativity always pulled me in. Meeting my Grade 9 art teacher at Trinityhouse changed everything and helped me realise creativity could become a lifelong journey.
2. Which Trinityhouse teacher made the biggest impact on your journey?
Mrs Finlay, my high school Art teacher, definitely shaped my path. Small art classes allowed us to work closely together, and she challenged me to think about art beyond something that simply looks beautiful.
3. Life after school sounds incredibly busy. What happened after matric?
I completed my BA Fine Arts degree at the University of the Witwatersrand while working in social media marketing. Today, I run my own social media marketing company working with international businesses and share my journey through YouTube content.
4. Which creative project are you most proud of?
“Space Kid” will always stand out. It became the recipient of the 2023 Wits Young Artist Award and a finalist in 2022. That project allowed me to tell stories through a completely imagined retro-futuristic-universe and connect with people in meaningful ways.
5. Creative industries can be demanding. Which challenge taught you the greatest lesson?
Creative burnout taught me that rest is necessary and that life rarely follows your original plan. Adaptability has become one of the most important lessons in my career.
6. Which advice would you share with students hoping to enter creative careers?
Start before you overthink it. Overplanning can disguise itself as productivity. Reach out to people who inspire you and stay open to unexpected opportunities.
7. Technology continues to change creative industries. Which developments excite you most?
Accessibility in video creation really excites me. Creative tools are becoming more affordable and available to everyone, which means more people can share their stories and ideas.
8. Leadership remains an important part of your story. How has teamwork influenced your growth?
Leadership taught me the importance of servant leadership. Strong teams allow every individual to contribute their unique strengths and ideas.
9. Which Trinityhouse memories still stay close to your heart?
Art room memories during breaks and art practical days will always stay special. Worship team experiences and serving as REACTs captain also shaped my school journey in meaningful ways.
10. Success means different things to different people. How do you define success today?
Success means living each day knowing I am loved by God, surrounded by people I care about and able to live a healthy life.
