“Sisters are Doin’ it for Themselves” –a delight from beginning to end!
Recently, the eighty-strong cast and crew of the Trinityhouse High School Randpark Ridge 2018 Major Production wowed the audiences with their stellar acting, singing and dancing performances. The production was inspired by the 1997 film, “Sister Act” and each child who was chosen to be part of the show, certainly delivered. The audience followed the journey of washed-out Vegas Lounge Singer, Christy van Cartier, as she discovered what it truly means to be a selfless person who thinks about others first. On the way, she discovers the meaning of friendship and love. Peppered with songs such as the Beatles’ “Help”, Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High” and ABBA’s “The Winner Takes It All”, many in the audience were delighted to sing along. The production would not have been complete without a performance of “I Will Follow Him”, which touched the hearts of many in the audience; and many were moved by the duet performed by Ana Damjanovic, who took the lead role, and Tyla van Niekerk, who played the role of Mother Superior.
Mrs Dawson was asked after one of the performances how she managed to get so many children to participate in the production. She answered that getting children to participate is actually not the difficult part –it is having to turn many children away. So many of our pupils are so enthusiastic about Drama in our school. There is nothing to beat the feeling that one has while on a stage, performing and bringing so much joy to those in the audience.
It takes a great deal of effort to put a production of this magnitude together, supported by a team of teachers who are dedicated to the success of the show. Coupled with this, nothing would be possible without the support of the parents, who willingly fetch and carry their children at all hours.
What a joy it is to watch the pupils grow in talent and confidence with each passing rehearsal. The sheer delight they experience is what drives Mrs Dawson to continue her work in the Dramatic Arts to thrive in the school!
