Drowning is one of the leading causes of Death in South Africa. Statistics reveal that people between the ages of three and thirty are most affected.
The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation visited Trinityhouse Palm Lakes at the beginning of summer. Lifeguards Ross and James of the Umhlanga Lifeguards addressed all the learners, from Grade 000 to Grade 9, on the important issues of responsibility and safety in and around water. There were demonstrations on rescuing someone experiencing difficulty in the water as well as the administration of CPR. Learners were given a chance to practice the CPR technique on the mannequins available. The learners are now water savvy, in time to spend in the pool or at the beach during the hot summer days ahead.
