Stephanie Goodyer, a Grade 9 pupil at our school is certainly proving herself on the water. Stephanie, along with sailing partner Garth Lowden, recently participated in the Northern Region Provincial Hobie sailing competition. These two determined youngsters completed eight races over two days, which resulted in approximately twelve hours of sailing. Despite the wind being very strong, blowing up to 35 knots at times, the sailing duo achieved 2nd place in this event and earned a silver medal.
Stephanie did not stop there. Along with her sailing partner, Jessica Howard, she competed in the South African National Championships. Fourteen races, 21 hours of sailing and extremely strong winds did not deter these two young ladies. They finished 18th out of 41 boats but came third in the Youth category and won the Ladies’ Team category. As a result of their performance, they have qualified to compete in the Ladies’ World Championships next year.
Well done, girls. The Trinityhouse family is very proud of you and we are behind you all the way.
