On 7 October, the Dodo Sports Club, situated in Curepipe, Mauritius, hosted the 2016 International Afrasia Rugby 7’s Tournament. The tournament took place over two days and a total of ten teams representing South Africa, Mauritius and the Reunion Islands competed. Amongst the South African teams were the Panorama Cobras and the RAMS, both based in the Western Gauteng region.
Trinityhouse High School was represented in both of these teams. Austin Bruggen, Christian Humphries and Kieran Mason formed part of the Cobras outfit and Kyle Van Eyssen represented the RAMS.
The tournament showcased some top quality 7’s rugby and the South African teams displayed sheer dominance over their international opposition. The Cobras, playing in the tournament for the very first time, demonstrated a top class brand of rugby and did very well in winning the Plate Final against a well-drilled U/18 National Mauritian side. The RAMS, competing in the tournament for the fourth time and defending their title, displayed high-paced rugby and progressed all the way to the Cup Finals where they were unfortunately outdone and outplayed by the free running Livingball Outenique team, based in George.
Overall the tournament was a huge success and many are looking forward to the exciting brand of rugby that is bound to be displayed at the tournament next year.
Well done, boys! You did Trinityhouse proud.
