Imagine a world in one school hall!
After spending a few weeks researching the cultural aspects of different countries around the world and then sharing their findings with their classmates and completing a number of assessment tasks – all in Afrikaans, our Grade 8 learners were rewarded for their hard work and diligence through Internasionale Kosdag, a day of feasting!
Prior to this day, the Grade 8’s were put into groups and each group was allocated a country on which the children had to carry out further research. Their final task was to present their country to the rest of the grade through food, dress and any cultural activity synonymous with their country.
On Kosdag, our school hall was filled with vibrant colours, intoxicating aromas and the excitement was palpable.
Each group was judged on their overall presentation and the children were tested, once again in Afrikaans, on their knowledge of their allocated country.
Not only was this a great learning experience and a great deal of fun, but it also succeeded in furthering one of the aims of our school, which is to foster tolerance and respect for diversity.
